Section A: Earthquake
Last night as Stacey
and I watched a 90120 re-run on
Soapnet (our guilty weekday pleasure) she accused me of
shaking the furniture. I mentioned that both my feet were on the coach
so that was impossible. Then it happened again, the couch started
shaking and as Stacey was forming the words "see!", we realized the
couch was rocking on its own. It was a real live earthquake rolling
through our high rise. I guess I'm jaded because I was unimpressed by
the lack of falling dishes and screaming car alarms. I jumped to the
computer and before the local news could break in we had the full
story. Minutes later a news bulletin was released for the bay area.
It must have been big in San Jose because we felt it 60 miles away.
Fires in the south and now we have quakes in the north, I'm afraid to ask
what's next. Below I've collected all the charts and graphs of the
quake. The Leftcoastlove seismologists are hard at work as we
speak. Once we figure it out we'll let you know where we are moving
to. Just kidding we are going to stay and as long as I have Stacey and
her purse nearby we'll be fine. Forget the FEMA survival kits, Stacey's
purse can support a family of four for 6 weeks. Food, clothes, shoes,
water, electric generator, 6 man tent, porta john, and antibacterial
soap. Oh yeah if the quake hits on a Tuesday we'll also have some
cashews?

Magnitude 5.6 Earthquake Shakes Bay
Area
POSTED: 8:14 pm PDT October 30, 2007
UPDATED: 8:43 pm PDT October 30, 2007
MILPITAS, Calif. -- A magnitude-5.6 earthquake shook the San Francisco Bay
area Tuesday night.
The moderate temblor struck shortly after 8
p.m., about 5 miles northeast of Alum Rock and 9 miles northeast of San
Jose, according to the U.S. Geological Service. Residents reported feeling
the quake, which lasted about a minute, as far east as Sacramento and as
far north as San Rafael.
The California Highway Patrol has received no reports of
damage or injury, spokesman Tom Marshall said.
Calls to area fire and police officials were
not immediately returned.
The epicenter of the quake was in the foothills east of San
Jose -- not far from the home of San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed. Reed's home
wasn't damaged -- but he did alert staff members by text message only
seconds after the rumblings began, said Reed's spokeswoman, Michelle
McGurk.
McGurk said the city hasn't received any
reports of damage.
"Nothing so far. The mayor's fine. His home's fine, City
Hall is fine," McGurk said. "We are getting assessments from city
staff and as soon as we know if there's any damage we'll be
responding."

Being a local makes being a tourist easy.
Too often we forget just how way cool our city is. When you live
downtown it all becomes common and that's why we picked up this fun deck of
cards. Each card has a different walking tour in a different part of
the city. The title says the tours are for kids but it doesn't specify
an age range so I figured they'll more than entertain me and Stacey.
They have decks for all kinds of different cities and I would imagine they'd
make great gifts.

Ditch the usual tourist traps and vacation
like a native—on foot! With 50 adventures to choose from in each deck, just
pick a card from the deck and be on your way. Whether you’re a first time
visitor to the city, or just want to discover new terrain, City Walks
gives you an intimate view. Each card in the deck outlines a self-guided
walking adventure, with a detailed map on the front and information on the
back filled with insider tips. So, pick a card, any card, and start
exploring!

I tried out my own walking tour of San
Francisco. I started in North Beach and made my way to the
Embarcadero. I snapped series of pictures as I made my way through the
streets. My random trek inspired the purchase of the cards above.

Section D: Electronics
Hannspree makes TVs
in decorative displays. My brother is a firefighter and when Stacey and
I saw these TVs we immediately thought of him and my nephew Justin. I
mean how cool would these fire truck TVs be for a kid? I'll tell you,
they would would be freaking awesome cool. With the prices of flat
panel technology coming down and down these toys are really affordable.
The small fire truck is only $129 and the large monitor in the big truck is
around $1000. Our decor doesn't really fit the Hannspree style but the
store is still a super fun way to spend 20 minutes. They also have TV's
with other themes such as Batman and NBA teams. There is even a home
theatre sized Batman monitor. Maybe if I'm good Santa might bring me
the Dark Night 42".

Section E: Music
With a few days off at home I am trying to do
the things I miss most. Shopping for music comes to the top of the
list. Today I wandered down to the Virgin Superstore and I found this
little sub $20 nugget. I love chill compilations, I discovered Zero 7
from a compilation disk. I don't follow the genre close enough to know
most of the artists by name but I do know that these cds are perfect for
Sunday mornings or late evenings when we want atmosphere. We click off
the Batvision and kick back with the lush sounds and smooth beats. This
particular set focuses on San Francisco and it even includes a lounge
guide. The bonus dvd is a nice touch but it seemed out of place since
it did not contain any SF scenes. I think the dvd was more to get us
interested in the other DestinationLounge collections.

DestinationLounge San Francisco 2
Revive The
Soul proudly continues with the sixth title in its "Destination
Lounge" series with the second San Francisco installment / DestinationLounge San Francisco 2. We proudly offer
this 6th installment, a collection that perfectly captures the chilled and
soothing beats of the hedonistic domestic destination of San Francisco. CD2
of the 2xCD collection is mixed by San Francisco resident extraordinaire DJ F
and contains ethereal beats from the likes of Miguel Migs, Julius Papp, Andy
Caldwell and Morrison.
Destination
Lounge San Francisco 2, a 2xCD + comprehensive lounge guide booklet also
includes an exclusive and rare 60 minute video vignette journey into the
sights, sounds & soul of Bali, New York City, and Hong Kong.

Hey, they also have cool website and
events! OK now this is genius. Buy the disk, learn about the
clubs, then attend a local event and enjoy the beats with other cool
scene-sters. This music company is trying to build a community for
their customers. If this sticks I am sure more companies will try this
marketing approach. Oh they already have...the CNN store in Atlanta,
located at the end of the CNN tour, where you can buy books, t-shirts, mugs,
and pooka shell necklaces emblazoned with images of their characters, oops I
mean "talent". I admit it I was sucked in and I do watch more
CNN now since being indoctrinated. But I digresss...

The
WVU
rifle team introduced the new team with trading cards. Excellent,
now I can tell the players from the local hunters! I was speechless
when I stumbled across this card and schedule in the local Sheetz (use link
below to learn all about the Sheetz).

Rifle team trading cards. This girl looks
WAYYY TOOO happy to be holding a rifle with a scope. I bet her
boyfriend doesn't stray very far. I wanted to check out an event but
then I wondered what do you actually get to watch? Do they have a stadium?
Do we line up in the woods? Do the contestants ever get mad and trash
talk? Hell I was scared for the guy who had to take the picture.
"OK, smile and point the rifle at my head. No a little to the
left, yes, give me that make my day smile!" CLICK click BOOM
